Business Building - Key Skills Of A Top Manager by Sean McPheat
Management training programs and management training courses
are meant to hone the managerial skills of a person.
Sometimes, it is through these management training programs
that an individual discovers he or she has a particular
skill. So, what are the key skills of a top manager?
courses will point out that good communication skills are of
paramount importance to a manager. A manager has to be a
great communicator if he wants to become a great manager.
Communication skill is not just about speaking but listening
as well. Good communication should avoid ambiguity. If there
is a chance that a message might be misunderstood then it
should be clarified. Communication is a two way street. And
this is something that all management gurus agree on. Check
on any management training manual or book any you will see
that this point is being made. So, just like others listen to
what you say, you have to listen to what others say.
share this vision with him/her. Communicating a vision
doesn't mean you have large message boards with your vision
written on them placed at strategic locations. It might be
effective to catch attention but to retain that attention you
are going to have to do something else. You have to make sure
that your team understands your vision and shares your vision
with you. Visionary managers make the employees feel that they
have stake in the organization's success. They also inspire
others to have their own visions and to reach out for these
visions.
integrity. A top manager has to remember action and not word
set a precedent. Mouthing moralities and practicing unethical
business practices does not mean you have integrity. You have
to practice what you preach. ... (continued)

Work-Life - 90% Of People Have No Goals by Keith Shaw
One life strategy that I recommend and reinforce, time and
time again with my clients and the readers of my world-wide
newsletter, is to have a written list of well-thought-out
goals for everything and anything that they want to
accomplish in life.
It may be their health goal, such as to lose weight. Or,
their goal may be to stop smoking cigarettes to improve the
quality of their life and save a ton of money as a result.
It may be a communication / relationship objective, such as
better dialogue and increased positive, quality time with
their spouse and children. Or for some it may be to mend a
broken relationship. Or they might have a desire to undertake
a humanitarian purpose such as helping and teaching others. In
fact, in How To Get What You Want, When You Want It, I teach
and show you this success strategy of how to develop your
clearly defined goals, step by step.
There are numerous studies that prove the value of journaling
to write down and keep track of your thoughts and goals. A
study sponsored by the Ford Foundation found that:
- 23% of the population has no idea what they want from life,
and as a result, they do not have much.
- 67% of the population has a general idea of what they want,
but they do not have any plans for how to get it.
- Only 10% of the population has specific, well-defined
goals, but even then, seven out of the ten of those people
reach their goals only half the time.
- The top 3%, however, achieved their goals 89% of the time.
Wow, an astonishing 90% of the population has no ideas or
plans for what they want out of life! Without a solid life
plan to take a hold of, these "drifters" will not have
direction or the peace of mind to maximize their lives. ... (continued)

Sales & Marketing - How To Make An Appointment by Jenny Cartwright
The most important thing to remember when making appointments
is that you are selling the appointment, not your product or
services.
Therefore, you do not want to be talking too much. You can
expand on what you have to offer when you get to the
appointment.
1. What you need is your opening statement (something you
know about them or a referral).
2. Your "interest-grabbing" sentence , something that offers
the customer a major benefit to them. Details of how to
create this can be found in the E-Book "Top Telesales
Techniques That Work! Go to
3. Request the appointment ensuring you give a choice of
times so the prospect cannot say "yes" or "no", e.g. "I'd
love to get together with you so we can establish how ______
can work for you. When would be a good time for you next
week, Monday or Tuesday?"
Sometimes, you do have to qualify the person to find out
whether your product or service would even be of use to the
prospect. You would ask no more than three questions after
the "interest-grabbing" sentence, repeat back what they said
to indicate that you were listening and then go for the
"close".
There are times when people, who already have a current
supplier of your type of product or service, will accept an
appointment if you say; "Mr Jones, I would like to drop by
for six or seven minutes so you know who I am and what we can
do for you. I realize that you might not need our services
right now but, at least, you will be well informed to make
decisions in the future. When would be a good day next week
for you, Monday or Tuesday?" People generally do not like
having their time consumed so, six or seven minutes is not
threatening and you are taking away the fear of being sold as
you have acknowledged the fact that they may not need you
right now. ... (continued)

Leadership - TOWARD BRAIN HARDWARE OPTIMIZATION by David Krueger
Scientists used to believe that brain cells and the
connections were set early in life and did not change in
adulthood. In the past decade, that assumption has been
drastically disproved. Through advancement in brain imaging
and other techniques, we now know that the brain as well as
behavior can be trained, physically modified, and
functionally transformed. The inner workings and circuitry of
the brain change with new experiences.
Neuroplasticity and behavioral change occur within the
context of individual styles. Some of these styles that
appear more or less hard-wired need to be taken into account
for optimum learning and performance.Learning and
Performance StylesSelf-management involves understanding
yourself quite well: your strengths, weaknesses, learning
style, working style, needs, and values.Optimum
learning and performance occur when you are in a specific
state of mind matched to what you are doing. When you operate
from your strengths, you optimize the potential for
excellence. In addition to recognizing strengths,
knowing how you learn and perform is crucial for success.
These learning and performance characteristics are styles;
they can be slightly modified, but ultimately must be
respected and strategically planned.

they wrote to inform his decisions.
reputation and success as a listener. When Johnson kept the
same people on his staff after he succeeded Kennedy, they
kept on writing. Johnson derailed his presidency by not
recognizing that he was a listener, not a reader.
